Aldi opens staff-only shops at UK hubs to cut food waste by selling surplus safe food at discounts.
Aldi has launched 11 employee-only "Colleague Shops" at UK distribution centers to reduce food waste by allowing staff to buy unsold but safe-to-eat products at discounted prices.
The initiative, expanding from a successful trial in Darlington, aims to prevent around 240 tonnes of food waste annually.
It supports Aldi’s broader sustainability goals, including a 90% reduction in food waste by 2030 compared to 2017 levels.
The chain is also introducing dedicated "reduction zones" in its regular stores to help customers find discounted items nearing their use-by dates.
