A woman was charged after a man, accused of killing a mother and abducting her infant, was shot by police in Niagara Falls.
A woman, Alysha Tarnawski, 38, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact following the fatal police shooting of Anthony Deschepper, 38, in Niagara Falls early Wednesday.
Deschepper, suspected in the Tuesday afternoon killing of Savannah Kulla, a mother of four, and the abduction of their one-year-old daughter, was fatally shot by a Niagara police officer after a multi-hour manhunt.
Kulla was shot in a Brampton parking lot, and Deschepper, who had prior firearm charges related to her, fled with the child, who was later found safe.
Police recovered a firearm linked to Deschepper, which was not fired.
The Ontario Special Investigation Unit is reviewing the officer’s use of force.
Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown called the incident a predictable tragedy due to systemic failures, and Prime Minister Mark Carney announced proposed bail reforms in response to growing pressure for change.
