West Virginia now lets residents use digital driver’s licenses on Apple devices for TSA PreCheck and age verification.
West Virginia has launched a digital driver’s license and state ID program, allowing residents to add their credentials to Apple Wallet and Apple Watch, becoming the 12th state to partner with Apple for this feature.
The digital ID, developed with IDEMIA Public Security, can be used for TSA PreCheck at over 250 airports, age verification, and other official checks.
Users add their ID by scanning their physical document and verifying identity through facial recognition via the West Virginia Mobile ID app or Apple Wallet.
The system encrypts data on the device, ensuring privacy and security, with no personal information shared unless the user chooses to present it.
While not a replacement for physical IDs, officials say it offers convenience, especially for travelers.
Full adoption across state agencies and businesses is ongoing, with updates to be shared publicly.
