UK plans to cut health-related Universal Credit for under-22s to boost jobs, affecting 66K young people.
The UK government is proposing to restrict the Universal Credit health element for those under 22, potentially affecting around 66,000 young people with health conditions, to encourage employment and redirect funds to youth job programs.
The change, outlined in the Pathways to Work green paper, could take effect as early as 2027 or 2028.
A separate upcoming law will cut the health element for new claimants from £97 to £47 per week, freezing the rate until 2029/2030, except for terminally ill individuals and those with severe, permanent conditions.
The DWP is reviewing public feedback from a June consultation and will announce final decisions soon.
