Twin sisters from Tunisia won the 2025 Arab Reading Challenge, reading over 600 books each and earning $136,000, which they’ll split with Palestinians.
Twin sisters Bisan and Bilsan Kouka, 12, from Tunisia, won the 2025 Arab Reading Challenge, reading over 600 books each to claim the Dh500,000 top prize.
They were honored by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai on October 23, 2025, alongside second-place finisher Mohammed Jassim Ibrahim of Bahrain and third-place winner Maryam Shamikh of Mauritania.
Over 32 million students from 50 countries participated in the ninth annual event, now the world’s largest Arabic literacy initiative.
The twins pledged to donate half their prize to support Palestinians.
The challenge, launched in 2015, has a Dh11 million prize pool and aims to foster reading culture, language skills, and cultural understanding across the Arab world.
