Saskatchewan Polytechnic partners with UK’s nuclear skills academy to train workers for its expanding nuclear industry.
Saskatchewan Polytechnic has launched a five-year partnership with the UK’s National Skills Academy for Nuclear to train workers for the province’s growing nuclear sector.
The program, offering in-person and online courses in nuclear safety, the fuel cycle, and emerging technologies, targets both early-career professionals and senior leaders.
Starting December 11, the first course already has a waiting list, with more sessions planned for January.
The initiative aims to leverage Saskatchewan’s existing workforce in high-hazard industries like mining and oil and gas, preparing them for nuclear roles through upskilling.
Despite recent layoffs, officials say the program offers opportunities to retain staff by training instructors for virtual and in-person delivery.
