A new study finds Wavelight Plus LASIK outperforms SMILE Pro in vision correction, especially for complex cases.
A new study presented at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting suggests Wavelight Plus, an advanced LASIK procedure using a 3D eye model from over 100,000 data points, provides better vision correction than SMILE Pro. In a trial of 60 patients, nearly all Wavelight Plus-treated eyes reached their target prescription, outperforming SMILE Pro, with over 80% gaining at least one line of vision compared to fewer than one-third with SMILE Pro. Wavelight Plus also reduced optical issues affecting night vision and contrast sensitivity and corrected astigmatism more effectively. Researchers say it may be especially beneficial for patients with complex prescriptions, but findings are preliminary and require larger, peer-reviewed studies. Patients should consult an eye doctor to determine the best option based on individual needs.
