Kerala High Court voids Mohanlal’s ivory ownership certificates due to legal violations.
On October 24, 2025, the Kerala High Court declared ownership certificates for two pairs of elephant ivory tusks and 13 ivory artifacts belonging to actor Mohanlal void, ruling they were issued in violation of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
The court found the government orders from 2015 and 2016 lacked proper publication and statutory compliance, nullifying the legal basis for his possession.
The case stems from a 2011 raid at Mohanlal’s home, where ivory was discovered, triggering a Forest Department investigation.
While the court did not rule on the final ownership of the items, it mandated the state to issue a new, legally compliant notification.
The decision underscores strict adherence to environmental laws, regardless of an individual’s public status, and leaves the matter open for further legal review.
