India pays ₹1.36 crore to Maharashtra and UP communities for biodiversity use in industrial product.
The National Biodiversity Authority has disbursed ₹1.36 crore to three local biodiversity committees in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, with ₹45.5 lakh each going to Sakharwadi, Kunjirwadi, and Kasganj.
The funds, from an Access and Benefit Sharing payment under India’s Biological Diversity Act 2002, stem from a commercial use of microorganisms from soil and industrial effluent to produce fructo-oligosaccharides.
The money supports community-led conservation and sustainable use activities, aligning with India’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2024–2030 and global biodiversity goals.
