DP World is spending $226 million to install a new automated container system at London Gateway port, boosting efficiency and sustainability.
DP World is investing £170 million ($226 million) in a new automated container handling system at its London Gateway port, introducing the BOXBAY Empty Superstack technology developed in Dubai.
The fully electric, modular system uses automated cranes to stack containers up to 16 tiers high in an enclosed facility, increasing yard capacity and reducing rehandling.
Installed at the all-electric Berth 4, it can hold 27,000 TEU and is expected to be operational in over two years.
The system, already proven at Jebel Ali Port with nearly 500,000 TEU handled, improves efficiency, safety, and sustainability by freeing up space for automated cranes and cutting truck turnaround times.
