Burkinabe acupuncturist Bazimo Louis promotes Traditional Chinese Medicine in Africa after training in China.
Bazimo Louis, a 59-year-old Burkinabe acupuncturist, has become a key figure in spreading Traditional Chinese Medicine across Africa after being inspired by Chinese doctors in 1988.
After eight years of study in China, he returned to Burkina Faso to lead the acupuncture department at the country’s largest hospital.
Fluent in Chinese, he recently joined 31 African doctors in a three-week training program in China, part of long-standing medical cooperation dating to 1963.
Acupuncture, now recognized in 113 WHO member states, is increasingly integrated into African healthcare, with three major hospitals in Burkina Faso offering the treatment.
Louis highlights its effectiveness, affordability, and safety, citing patient recoveries from paralysis and chronic pain, and aims to build a dedicated TCM hospital in his home country.
