Big Ben will pause at 2:00 am on October 26, 2025, to reset for the end of daylight saving time.
On Sunday, October 26, 2025, Big Ben, officially the Great Clock of Westminster, will briefly stop at 2:00 am to adjust for the UK’s return to Greenwich Mean Time, marking the end of British Summer Time.
A maintenance team led by clockmaker Ian Westworth will pause the clock after silencing its chimes and turning off its lights starting Saturday evening.
The team will inspect the mechanism, including a persistent squeak near the quarter-to-hour mark, and reset the clock using GPS-based time calibration.
After repairs and reactivation, the clock will resume normal operation by 2:00 am.
Modern upgrades like a service elevator and LED lighting, installed during a 2022 renovation, have improved access and efficiency.
Despite public concerns and complaints about the pause, Westworth confirms the clock remains accurate and could operate for another 160 years with skilled maintenance.
