Assam’s SIT concludes probe into singer Zubeen Garg’s death, arrests seven, as India investigates amid no foul play found in Singapore.
Assam’s Special Investigation Team has concluded its probe in Singapore and returned to Guwahati, where it will file a chargesheet in the death of singer Zubeen Garg, who died on September 19 while reportedly swimming.
The SIT, which visited the incident site and collaborated with Singapore Police under the MLAT, secured key evidence, including CCTV footage and witness statements, with Singapore expected to deliver its final report within 90 days.
Seven individuals, including Garg’s manager, cousin, and band members, have been arrested and sent to judicial custody on charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with financial irregularities involving over ₹1.1 crore under scrutiny.
While Singapore’s police found no evidence of foul play, the investigation continues in India, with over 70 statements recorded.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence in the SIT and urged political parties to avoid exploiting the case, as public mourning remains widespread across Assam.
