Arthur Sinodinos and Dr. Jessica Buck honored at University of Newcastle's 50th alumni awards for public service and Indigenous cancer research.
Arthur Sinodinos, a 1979 University of Newcastle graduate, received the Alumni Medal at the 2025 Alumni Excellence Awards for his career in public service, including roles as assistant treasurer, cabinet secretary, and Australia’s ambassador to the U.S., where he helped strengthen bilateral ties during the Trump and Biden administrations.
He also played a key role in implementing the GST.
Dr. Jessica Buck, a Kamilaroi woman and first Aboriginal Australian woman to earn a PhD from Oxford, was honored with the Beryl Nasher Young Researcher Award for her pioneering work in First Nations childhood cancer research.
The event marked 50 years of the alumni awards program, celebrating over 200 honorees and the university’s global impact.
