The Arkham Asylum TV series, once in development by Matt Reeves, is no longer moving forward, per James Gunn.
James Gunn confirmed in a late 2024 interview that the Arkham Asylum TV series, initially developed by Matt Reeves as a spin-off of The Batman, is no longer in development, stating it “just didn’t work.” The project, which evolved from a GCPD-focused concept to a standalone horror-inspired series centered on Gotham’s infamous psychiatric facility, was never produced.
Reeves instead pursued The Penguin, a critically acclaimed series that concluded in 2024.
With no current plans or active development, the Arkham Asylum series remains shelved, though Gunn left open the possibility of future reconsideration.
