Williams invests $1.9B in Woodside to co-develop Louisiana’s first new LNG export project since 2025, set for 2029 launch.
U.S. pipeline company Williams has invested $1.9 billion in Australia’s Woodside Energy to co-develop a $17.5 billion Louisiana LNG project, securing 10% ownership in the project’s holding company and 80% of the Driftwood pipeline.
The deal, which includes a $378 million cash payment and a 1.5 million metric tons per year LNG offtake agreement, supports the project’s 2029 launch with 16.5 million metric tons of annual capacity.
Williams will leverage its pipeline network to supply natural gas, while Woodside plans to reduce its stake to 50% by selling additional shares.
The project, the first U.S. LNG export facility to reach final investment decision in 2025, has secured supply deals with Germany’s Uniper and Turkey’s BOTAS.
The announcement boosted Woodside’s shares, reflecting strong investor confidence in the project’s growth and U.S. energy export expansion under current policy trends.
