A wild elephant died in Tamil Nadu after being electrocuted when it knocked down a power pole.
A 25-year-old male wild elephant died on October 23, 2025, in Kuppepalayam village, Coimbatore district, after being electrocuted when it knocked down an electric pole, causing a live power line to fall on it.
The incident occurred near a public road about 500 meters from the Boluvampatti Block II reserve forest.
Forest officials discovered the carcass at around 5 a.m. and are conducting a post-mortem to confirm the cause of death.
This follows a separate elephant death the previous day in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, where a female elephant likely died from illness.
