Venezuela's vice president demands payment for gas exports to Trinidad, rejecting U.S. claims of free access.
Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez warned Trinidad and Tobago that it must pay for any natural gas from Venezuela, rejecting claims that the U.S. could provide free access to the Dragon gas field.
Speaking at a Caracas forum on October 22, she criticized Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar for relying on U.S. assurances, stating only Venezuela can authorize exports and that all deals must follow international trade rules.
The U.S. has issued an OFAC license allowing negotiations for the Dragon field, but Rodríguez emphasized it does not guarantee gas deliveries.
She warned Trinidad’s economy could collapse without a deal, linking the issue to broader regional energy cooperation and accusing the U.S. of misleading the island nation.
