U2’s Bono and The Edge received the 2025 Woody Guthrie Prize in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on October 21, honoring their commitment to social justice and music as a force for change.
The ceremony, held at Cain’s Ballroom—a venue the band played in 1981—featured a conversation on art and activism, with Bono crediting Bob Dylan for introducing him to Guthrie and stressing that protest songs should inspire hope.
The Edge said music can shift culture.
They delivered a surprise performance of six songs, including “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and “Pride (In The Name of Love),” weaving in snippets of Guthrie’s work.
Bono also shared lyrics from a new song about Palestinian activist Awdah Hathaleen, killed in July, highlighting loss, justice, and the impact of individual lives.
