A UK-wanted man accused of leading a drug ring was arrested in Portugal and faces extradition to Scotland.
A 40-year-old foreign national, wanted in the UK for allegedly leading a transnational drug ring involved in large-scale cocaine and hashish trafficking, was arrested in Boliqueime, Algarve, Portugal.
The suspect, believed to have used a false identity, had been on the run for about two years and is accused of violent acts and evading police, including hit-and-run attempts.
The arrest followed international cooperation between Portugal’s Judiciary Police and the UK’s National Crime Agency under an international arrest warrant.
He is now set to appear before the Court of Appeal in Évora, where a decision on his extradition to Scotland will be made.
