Two pilots, including one who died in an August 2025 crash, are named in a lawsuit over a 2022 Nebraska fuel exhaustion crash.
Two pilots, Dr. Mark Meyer, 77, and Kent Magnuson, 72, who died in a August 2025 plane crash, were named in a lawsuit filed three weeks earlier by an Arizona family injured in a 2022 crash near Kearney, Nebraska.
The plaintiffs allege the pilots violated FAA rules by charging a flat fee for a flight, failed to ensure proper fuel levels, and operated the aircraft unsafely, leading to a fuel exhaustion crash.
The lawsuit claims the Van Der Merwes suffered serious injuries and medical costs nearing $715,000.
Meyer’s wife and two aviation companies were also named.
A motion to dismiss was filed the day before the fatal crash, but no ruling has been issued.
