Super Retail's chair survived a protest vote after CEO dismissal fallout, amid sales gains and leadership changes.
Super Retail's chair Judith Swales survived a protest vote at the annual meeting amid fallout from the dismissal of former CEO Anthony Hegarty, whose $7 million in withheld bonuses sparked investigations by ASIC and Fair Work. The company reported a 4.5% sales rise in the first 16 weeks of 2025/26, led by BCF and Macpac, though Rebel and Supercheap Auto underperformed. Swales said new evidence not available during the initial review would have changed the board’s stance. Super Retail set aside $11.3 million for legal costs after settling with whistleblowers, and Paul Bradshaw, an internal hire, will take over as CEO, replacing interim CEO David Burns, who returns as CFO. Shares dropped 3.4% to $16.57.
