Sudbury’s Legion launches veteran banners honoring service members, displayed publicly through Remembrance Day.
The Dr. Fred Starr Branch 76 Royal Canadian Legion in Sudbury has launched a commemorative banner initiative to honor residents who have served or are serving in Canada’s military, RCMP, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine.
Now the 47th Ontario community to adopt the program, Sudbury displays weather-resistant banners along The Kingsway and downtown Minto Street starting October 1, each featuring a veteran’s photo, name, service branch, and campaigns.
Banners, measuring 27.5 by 64 inches, are purchased for $300 and remain on public view until Remembrance Day, rotating to the legion afterward.
The effort, inspired by personal ties to military service and similar programs in other towns, aims to foster community awareness and appreciation.
Families can participate by contacting Bob Cullens at 705-923-5781 or bobcullens224@gmail.com.
