Over 25,000 British Columbia public workers strike for eighth week, disrupting services amid ongoing wildfire response.
British Columbia’s public service workers, including members of the BC Wildfire Service and Ministry of Forests, have joined a strike now in its eighth week, with over 25,000 of the BCGEU’s 34,000 members participating across 550 worksites.
The action has disrupted government services, liquor and cannabis supply, and public operations, though essential services remain active amid 94 wildfires, 90% of which are under control.
Mediated talks led by veteran mediator Vince Ready have begun, but no resolution has been reached.
