On October 23, 2025, Nepal celebrated Bhaitika, the final day of the Tihar festival, honoring sibling bonds through rituals rooted in the myth of Yama and Yamuna.
Sisters applied seven-colored tika and marigold garlands to brothers, drew mustard oil trails for protection, and offered sweets and a ring-shaped rice cake called Sel.
Brothers reciprocated with gifts and money.
The event, also known as Yama Dwitiya, drew participants from across Nepal and abroad, including Ramesh Gautam, who traveled from Myanmar to reunite with family for the first time, highlighting the festival’s enduring cultural significance.
