A man in his 40s was shot and killed by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy in Rosemead on Wednesday night, October 22, 2025, after exiting a home armed with a high-powered rifle during a mental health crisis.
Deputies had initially responded earlier in the day to a report of a man in distress threatening himself, family, and officers.
Crisis negotiators were engaged, and when the man emerged with the rifle around 11:30 p.m., deputies opened fire.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two family members—an elderly adult and a child—inside the home were unharmed.
The incident remains under investigation by the LASD Homicide Bureau, which is urging witnesses or tipsters to contact authorities.
