A Louisiana man shot two people, including a sheriff, in a racially charged attack, sparking an ongoing investigation.
A 60-year-old man, Paul Blanchard of Pierre Part, Louisiana, faces multiple charges including attempted first-degree murder and hate crimes after a October 16 shooting that left two people injured and involved a confrontation with Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon.
Authorities say Blanchard, who allegedly made racial remarks, shot a lawn care worker, pursued him into a home, and then fired at Falcon, grazing him.
A deputy returned fire, wounding Blanchard, who remains hospitalized.
Both Blanchard and the victim were seriously injured.
Louisiana State Police are conducting an independent investigation, which is ongoing.
