Leica launches the M EV1, its first rangefinder-less M-series camera with an electronic viewfinder, 60MP sensor, and live view, priced at $8,995.
Leica has launched the M EV1, its first M-series camera without an optical rangefinder, replacing it with a 5.76-million-dot electronic viewfinder and live view features. Based on the M11-P, it has a 60MP sensor, 64GB internal storage, and supports Content Credentials, but still does not record video. Weighing 484 grams, it’s 46 grams lighter than the M11-P due to the removed rangefinder mechanism. The EVF offers focus peaking, magnification, and exposure preview, improving usability with wide-angle and telephoto lenses. It launches today in Europe for €7,950, with a U.S. release expected later at $8,995 due to an FCC delay. The design now includes a blank front area where the rangefinder window once was, and the front lever is customizable. The camera maintains the M series’ classic look but marks a significant shift toward electronic viewfinder functionality while preserving manual focus and core build quality.
