Ireland's High Court dismisses Dr. Cora Stack's legal challenge, upholding the presidential nomination process as constitutional.
Ireland’s High Court has rejected a last-minute legal challenge by independent presidential candidate Dr. Cora Stack, dismissing her claims that the nomination process was unconstitutional and unfairly obstructed.
Presided over by Mr. Justice Mark Heslin, the court found her allegations lacked evidence, noting she provided no proof of efforts to secure the required 20 Oireachtas nominations or local authority support.
The judge ruled the process lawful, stating changes must come through democratic means like a referendum, not judicial intervention, and ordered her to pay the State’s legal costs.
The decision upholds the existing rules ahead of the 2025 presidential election.
El Tribunal Superior de Irlanda desestima el desafío legal del Dr. Cora Stack, manteniendo el proceso de nominación presidencial como constitucional.
