An inmate died after being shot by a corrections officer during a medical transport altercation at a Tucson hospital.
An inmate died Wednesday afternoon after being shot by a corrections officer in the emergency room of Banner-UMC South in Tucson.
The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. during an altercation while the inmate, transported from the Pima County Adult Detention Center for medical care, was being treated.
The officer, who was assigned to the inmate, fired a department-issued weapon.
Despite medical efforts, the inmate died.
No one else was injured.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office Critical Incident Team, with the Oro Valley Police Department leading the investigation, is reviewing the event.
The hospital remains open.
