Idaho’s public universities and colleges face permanent $13.3 million in state budget cuts, starting July 1, 2025, forcing widespread staff and faculty reductions, program eliminations, and operational changes across the system.
The University of Idaho will cut $3.4 million, including 28 essential jobs, while Boise State, Idaho State, and other institutions are implementing tuition increases, hiring freezes, and workforce adjustments.
These cuts, resulting from a 3% holdback by Governor Brad Little, are not temporary and are expected to impact class sizes, research, student support, and workforce readiness through at least 2027.
