Health New Zealand has paid $4.7 million to 1,029 former employees, primarily from the Taranaki region, as part of its Holidays Act remediation program, bringing total payments since 2010 to $652.4 million.
Around 2,200 former staff remain eligible, and Health NZ is urging them to register to receive compensation.
Current employees are being prioritized, with payments expected to finish across three districts by early next year.
The program affects about 130,000 former and 90,000 current workers across 24 payrolls, with the total cost of unpaid leave since 2010 estimated at $1.8 billion.
