A former Transport for NSW official, Ibrahim Helmy, admitted to manipulating road contract tenders to benefit contractor Avijohn in exchange for kickbacks, with the ICAC inquiry revealing he and a colleague inflated competitors' bids and used a deceased colleague's name to falsify approvals. Helmy, who fled for four months before being arrested in Sydney, faces scrutiny over his role in Operation Wyvern, the fourth corruption probe into the agency’s procurement since 2019. Authorities seized gold, cash, a Maserati, cryptocurrency, and funds in a sister’s account. He is set to return to the inquiry.
