Former fairgrounds in Welland demolished for new school and housing; school opens in 2027.
Several buildings at Welland’s former fairgrounds, including the Peter Kormos Memorial Pavilion and a historic barn, have been demolished to make way for a new elementary school and housing development.
The District School Board of Niagara will operate a $33.1-million school on 3.4 hectares, serving 726 students with 49 child care spaces, opening in September 2027.
The remaining site, purchased for nearly $40 million, will include housing on 18 hectares.
The Niagara Regional Agriculture Society acquired a separate property for $1.5 million to build a multi-use facility with farmland and green space.
