A family of three was rescued after their boat caught fire off Cape Cod, with all members airlifted to hospitals.
A family of three—Cici and Patrick Sullivan and their son Tyler—was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, after their 30-foot boat, the Third Wave, caught fire off Cape Cod.
The vessel, which departed Falmouth on Friday, was en route between Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard when the fire broke out Monday night.
The family swam to Naushon Island, part of the Elizabeth Islands, and sheltered in a barn for nearly two days.
The son used a marine radio washed ashore to send a mayday call, prompting a search by the Coast Guard, Falmouth police, the harbormaster, and Naushon Trust volunteers.
All three were airlifted to hospitals; Cici Sullivan remains in critical but stable condition, Patrick is being treated for burns, and Tyler has third-degree burns and smoke inhalation.
The Coast Guard credited their survival to quick thinking and emergency equipment, urging boaters to carry safety gear and first aid training.
The fire’s cause is under investigation.
