A 32-year-old Dublin man, Dean Madden, was sentenced to 16 months in prison after pleading guilty to possessing, producing, and distributing nearly 4,000 images and videos of child abuse material, including content involving children as young as two.
The material, found during a March 2024 home search, included real and computer-generated depictions of sexual activity and child exposure, along with fictional "fantasy text" conversations on an app that constituted production and distribution.
Madden admitted to accessing the dark web during the pandemic, expressed remorse, and has since attended counseling with no prior criminal record.
Authorities confirmed no evidence of physical contact with children.
A small amount of cannabis was also found.
The judge acknowledged his cooperation and personal struggles but emphasized the severity of his actions.
Support services are available for victims.
