Constable Shivani, a 22-year-old from Uttar Pradesh, became the first woman in India’s Border Security Force to receive an out-of-turn promotion to Head Constable just five months after joining, honored for winning silver in the women’s Sanda category at the 17th World Wushu Championship in Brazil.
The promotion, awarded by BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary on October 23, 2025, marks the first such recognition in the force’s 60-year history and the second in 22 years, following a similar honor given to constable Anuj in 2024.
Shivani, part of the 155 Battalion Punjab, is the first woman in her family to serve in a Central Armed Police Force.
The rare advancement, allowed under Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines for outstanding international performance, underscores the BSF’s support for athlete development through training, nutrition, and medical care.
She aims to win gold at the upcoming World Cup.
