China and Saudi Arabia have launched four joint earth science projects since 2020, advancing resource exploration through shared expertise, improved mapping techniques, and training for Saudi geologists.
The collaboration, led by China Geological Survey and Saudi Geological Survey, has introduced international standards in geochemical mapping and core analysis, blending Chinese field methods with Western approaches to enhance precision and efficiency.
China has also expanded global geoscience cooperation via UNESCO-backed centers, including the International Research Centre on Global-Scale Geochemistry and the International Research Center on Karst.
These initiatives have produced large-scale geochemical databases covering 33% of Earth’s land, enabled 11 countries to create their first geochemical maps, and advanced research on carbon cycles and groundwater, supporting climate mitigation, water security, and sustainable development.
