Canada seizes $8.3M in BC properties to recover $3M in unpaid taxes from Magaton family businesses.
Canadian authorities are seizing eight properties in British Columbia’s Peace River District, valued at about $8.3 million, to recover over $3 million in unpaid payroll and sales taxes from the Magaton family’s companies, including Buffalo Inn, dating back to 2005.
The government alleges the companies failed to remit taxes between 2006 and 2019, with debts accruing daily interest.
The Canada Revenue Agency, acting under federal law that gives it priority in bankruptcy, is pursuing the land despite multiple liens from contractors, the Workers’ Compensation Board, and provincial agencies.
Melody Magaton, who ran Buffalo Inn, said she was unaware of the legal actions.
