The new system will grant providers greater flexibility to tailor services to local needs, from urban areas like western Sydney to remote Northern Territory communities.
Expanded online and after-hours services are also planned to improve accessibility.
The current funding will continue through 2026 while consultations occur, with the new program expected to launch in early 2027.
Children’s charity The Smith Family welcomed the changes, emphasizing that focusing on families will lead to better long-term outcomes.
