Australia honors service dogs at memorial, spotlighting their bravery and impact.
On October 17, 2025, Bathurst, Australia, dedicated a memorial at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park to honor military and law enforcement service dogs, recognizing their critical roles in every Australian military campaign.
Organized by the Bathurst RSL Sub Branch, the event featured Andrew Hudson, a former SASR handler known as "Horse," who shared stories of his service dogs, including Quake, who saved his life, and Richa, a dog once deemed untrainable but who later excelled in Afghanistan, detecting explosives and supporting troops.
Richa’s legacy lives on through a named kennel and global tributes after his death at nearly 15.
Hudson, now partnered with his service dog Preston, highlighted the deep bonds between handlers and dogs, especially in overcoming PTSD.
The unveiling coincided with a screening of the documentary *Bravery and Betrayal*, which chronicles his experiences and calls attention to the sacrifices of military working dogs.
