Zimbabwe’s Hwange Unit 8, the country’s largest coal-fired power plant, has been shut down for 10 days due to a technical fault, worsening ongoing power shortages.
The outage follows the prolonged maintenance of Unit 3, which began in September and will continue until November.
Zesa Holdings restored Unit 6 to the grid, adding 150 megawatts, while keeping Unit 7 operational and increasing output at Kariba South to offset losses.
Despite these efforts, national generation remains well below peak demand, leading to extended load-shedding, especially in urban areas.
The utility apologized for the disruptions and reiterated its commitment to restoring stable power.
