The U.S. DOT awarded Iridium $1.5M to boost GPS resilience at 90 T-Mobile 5G sites using satellite-based timing.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded Iridium Communications a $1.5 million contract to expand its PNT technology to 90 additional T-Mobile 5G sites, enhancing resilience against GPS disruptions. Using Iridium’s L-band satellite signals, the system offers stronger, encrypted timing signals that work indoors and in poor weather, providing sub-100-nanosecond accuracy. T-Mobile will test the system under real-world conditions to validate performance. The initiative supports national efforts to secure critical infrastructure by adopting commercial backup navigation solutions.
