Thirlspot Farm gains official approval to operate as a caravan and tent site, formalizing a pandemic-era shift with strict usage limits.
Thirlspot Farm Camping and Caravan Park in Thirlmere, near the Lake District’s Helvellyn, has received retrospective approval from the Lake District National Park Authority to officially change its use from tent camping to touring caravans and tents, formalizing a shift made during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 15-pitch site, operating seasonally from April to September, offers electric hook-ups, toilets, showers, and waste facilities, and remains popular on weekends and holidays.
The approval, based on assessments finding no significant increase in traffic or flood risk, includes conditions limiting stays to 21 days, prohibiting static homes, and tying the site’s operation to the farm’s agricultural diversification.
The layout, access via the farm entrance, and screening from the A591 highway remain unchanged.
