South Australia is reviewing the parole decision to release James Vlassakis, a Snowtown murders convict, after victims’ families protested.
The South Australian government has launched a review of the parole decision that would release James Vlassakis, a convicted killer linked to the 1990s Snowtown murders, in which 12 people were killed.
Vlassakis, who was 18 when he participated in four murders and later testified against his co-accused, received a life sentence with a 26-year non-parole period.
The Parole Board approved his release in August, citing remorse and rehabilitation, along with strict conditions.
The decision sparked backlash from victims’ families, prompting Attorney-General Kyam Maher to refer the case to the Parole Administrative Review Commissioner.
A hearing is expected soon, though details are confidential.
Vlassakis’s identity remains protected, and his image has not been released.
Another accomplice was released in 2024.
