SkyFly’s eVTOL Axe gets FAA approval for piloted tests, a key step toward U.S. production.
SkyFly’s Axe eVTOL prototype, N250EV, has received FAA approval for piloted flight tests in the U.S., enabling continued testing on American soil. The two-seat, vertically capable aircraft, unveiled at EAA Oshkosh AirVenture, features eight electric motors, fixed canard wings, and a triple-redundant flight control system. It can glide at a 6:1 ratio during power loss, offering enhanced safety. With 45 minutes of fixed-wing flight endurance, SkyFly plans to extend range and develop a hybrid version capable of 300 miles. The FAA’s new MOSAIC rules allow sport pilots to operate the Axe and permit limited commercial use. Testing will continue through winter, followed by customer demonstrations and kit-built deliveries with a builder-assist program. SkyFly calls the approval a major milestone toward production.
