Romania to hold Bucharest mayoral election Dec. 7, 2025, following Nicușor Dan's resignation.
Romania’s governing coalition has agreed to hold a partial mayoral election in Bucharest on December 7, 2025, following the resignation of former mayor Nicușor Dan after his presidential election in May.
The decision, confirmed by National Liberal Party vice-president Ciprian Ciucu, comes after months of negotiations among coalition partners, who opted for each party to field its own candidate.
The government is expected to formally approve the date on October 23.
The election will be held within 90 days of the vacancy, as required by law, and will follow a shortened campaign timeline.
