Qatar and the U.S. warn EU to change its sustainability law or face halted LNG exports, citing energy security risks.
Qatar and the U.S. have warned the EU to revise its Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, saying it threatens energy security by risking disruptions to LNG supplies critical for Europe’s post-Russia gas transition.
The directive, which would require companies to address human rights and environmental risks in supply chains, has drawn opposition from Doha and Washington, with Qatar threatening to halt exports if changes aren’t made.
The two nations argue the law could harm industrial competitiveness, deter investment, and undermine trade, especially as Europe faces a winter demand surge and relies heavily on U.S. and Qatari LNG.
The European Commission has not yet responded.
