A power failure released thousands of plastic discs into the sea, washing ashore in Swansea and Gower.
Thousands of plastic discs used in wastewater treatment washed up on beaches in Swansea, Gower, and Neath Port Talbot after a power failure at a Welsh Water facility on September 24 disrupted operations, allowing the discs to enter the sea via an outfall.
The discs, about the size of a £1 coin, were carried by tides and found in large numbers on shorelines including Langland, Rhossili, and Port Eynon.
Welsh Water confirmed the release was brief but acknowledged environmental impact, stating upgrades to backup power and monitoring systems are underway to prevent future incidents.
Natural Resources Wales is investigating, and cleanup efforts continue, though Swansea Council has not issued a statement.
