Those aged 70 or older qualify automatically, while under-70s may qualify if receiving certain social welfare payments, living with a qualifying recipient, or meeting a means test based on income below the State Pension (Contributory) plus €200.
The benefit includes a daily €1.15 allowance for electricity or gas and a free TV licence, paid monthly.
